Family wellness is a healthy lifestyle that involves the whole family. They eat healthy, think positive and enjoy an active lifestyle together. But staying active as a family becomes more difficult as children grow up. Mom and dad are getting older and soon the kids are racing their bikes through city streets or pedaling through trees and dirt roads, while mom and dad do the dishes. Fun for the kids but it takes away from family wellness. The solution is Family Cycling.
Biking is the perfect leisure activity for the whole family and is well-appreciated by the aging body. Biking takes stress off your lower back, works on core and lower body muscles, burns calories and works you aerobically. But know this. Biking is probably only going to be as good for you as the equipment you buy. I have always relied on Comparison Shopper's Bike Guide when looking for equipment and have learned also to listen to their advice. It comes from knowledge, experience and just knowing the cyclist.
From them I have learned all about cycling and cycling equipment, sizing, safety, and how to store my bike properly but the advice that stands out best is that "one bike size or bike type does not fit all riders." At the time I learned this I was riding a hand me down bike and I did not like it very much. Once I found the right bike for me, I never stopped pedaling. The Bike Guide also gave us great advice for mom and dad suggesting we focus on a safe, sturdy, comfort bike with support. They politely suggested mom and dad did not need high-speed performance or max gear-shifting, rather, just a way to get out in the sun and enjoy some moderate physical activity. So we did not let age change our family dynamics. We found a way to all play together.
Fall is our favorite season to bike as a family. There is nothing better than a leisure ride watching the leaves transform from their typical hues to brilliant shades of gold, red and orange. We, as a family, look forward to it every year and Mother Nature has not disappointed us yet. Getting out into the sun with family, generating your own cool, refreshing breeze with pedal power is revitalizing.
See the safety check list at Comparisons Shopper Bike Guide before venturing out too far from home. Then gather the family and ride…
I hope to see you on this years fall tour.
